As a performing artist myself being raised and supported by my mom & dad, as I went into the world establishing myself, I would always feel uncomfortable with promoting myself and trying to convince folk who had resources that they needed me. I came up hearing the word from a child and didn't have the same insecurity issues like a lot of the other musicians that I've observed. That could seem arrogant and even maybe self-righteous and maybe I was at times but I always felt that if God allowed me to persue music as a profession, He would provide a way. So I looked at the Biblical examples of musicians like the Levites and David for instance. I just believe many artists struggle with having misdirected affections. And it happens because we are human and our parents didn't do it all right but I thank God for EX Ministries who God has used to provide direction and insights for the body of Christ in regards to the ambitions and motives of those who pursue a career in the music industry.
By the way, there are a lot of different ways a person can explore a profession in music and be a blessing to people without being lifted up in self! It's just that the artists have to find Biblical examples and seek God for direction.
But the bottom line is for anybody within any profession is to stay humble, do your job with excellence, and continue in His Word. God will do the promotion! We need to get our heart and affections in the right place first! A lot of folk in the entertainment industry just jump the gun and want to run before they crawl. So when they stay focused on what they could have they never are content with what they have and will struggle with insecurity.
This is the whole point that's wrong with these "Gospel" Celebrities, you can clearly see their heart and motive is selfish, prideful, and lust driven. And if you surround yourself around people who keep validating you by your ability and not people who will keep you sober minded, of course you'll start believing you are all that and you're God's gift to the world. No, God's gift to the world is Jesus and if we want him to get the glory through our lives we have to follow His model.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
