Musicians get so rapped up with sounds, tones, and rhythms on the surface level and a lot of them don't even realize that that's not what actually drew them to the music. It was the spirit and intent behind it! Just like the Bible says, no man can come unto the Father unless the Spirit draws them. (John 6;44) Well, on the other side of that coin, evil spirits draw people as well. And because Satan was a musical angelic being in Heaven (Eze 28:13-19, Isa 14:11-14), that's what he uses to draw people into is deceit.
Think about it, look at the best musicians you know, dead or alive and ask these questions about them: Do/did they struggle with drug addiction? Do/Did they struggle with alcohol addiction? Are/were they sexually perverted? Are/Were they narcissistic? There's a reason why and usually it's because they idolized an older perverted musician and channel that spirit through them. Another word that you can use inter changeably with spirit is energy. Jazz kats for instance, are always talking about how the "vibe" was when they played. That's short for vibrations. That's energy, an intangible something they felt or decerned that connected with their heart, soul, and/or spirit.
Of course we will like certain sounds and styles because of the musical environments we came up in and the particular music we've habitually listened to. But our motive and intentions have to be pure and pleasing unto God for our praise on our instruments to be a sweet saver to His nostrils.
Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
May the Lord be with you,
