MUSICIAN TIP - LIFE LESSON | While I was on my way to put trash in the dumpster and grab necessities from CVS for the home, I just thought about what's required to be a good husband and father. At home I'm required to be the CEO, CFO, janitor, counselor, maintenance man, etc. I thought to myself, "You know, It's way more valuable and should be a priority for young guys to aim to be a "Superstar" INSIDE the home rather than look to be celebrated by people who you're not directly responsible for outside of the home." The media and our society has programmed most folks to believe that it's more important to be a hero to everybody else BUT the people who are most important in your life. Many musicians get it twisted. They aim to be better than the next musician and aim to get what they have, not realizing how much they neglect just being normal and functioning as a man. When you get older you'll realize that it's more than gigs that you want and need! This is personal revelation that I started getting after winning 3rd place in the '08 Monk Competition. Of course it's nothing wrong with aiming to be excellent and skilled on an instrument but realize, it's your thinking that is your gift that needs to be fairly distributed to other areas in your life to really function in the full capacity of what God created you for!
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
