Young aspiring musicians! I just wanted to say this! Caution yourself before you get so caught up in the glamour and the ability of a notable artist you may admire. Things are not always what they appear to be. Crafting your pursuits in life based on superficial ideals conditions you to be selfish and not pay attention to what really matters most in life.
Here's something to think about kats! I'm getting revelation now that I've been learning all this stuff about the brain and the power of words. Check it out, when people tell you, "you sound good" "You so talented" "You need to be more known" "You need to get your music out there" "I can see you on the big stage" etc. Kats will actually start believing all that and spend their whole life trying to pursue what people have said WHO DON'T REALLY KNOW YOU. What about the words of those that KNOW you and see the weak areas? What about what God has to say? Here's the thing about God's Word, it can tear us down and build us up at the same time so that we keep a SOBER perception of ourselves. But if you got a spirit of affectation and insecurities as a musician, you'll waist a lot of valuable time chasing after more and more validation through what you do by others when none of that even matters.
As I think about my loving wife, she doesn't care about how I play, she loves me for who I am regardless of my musical ability. You see, this is a reflection of how God's love for us is, it's a love that is not based on conditions or superficial ideals! So in essence, should we really even focus on the opinions of those who only care about what we do? This is one of the main ways of how many musicians and/or entertainers for that matter get confused of their identity and are manipulated in the business. If you don't know who you are, then the world will give you a model to identify with and take advantage of your superficial ambitions. Be practical and realistic with your musical goals and stop making idols of men who look good outside but are wicked on the inside. (This was Lucifer in Heaven, Eze 28:13-18)
1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
May the Lord be with you,
